Well Worth The Investment?

People are spending an ever-increasing amount of time in front of computer screens as our lives become more intertwined with technology. This increase correlates to an increase in health hazards from repetitive motion injuries, neck and back problems, and eye strain. Gunnar has recognized this and has put together a diverse product line dedicated to mitigating the strain we are putting on our eyes with some of their special lens and optic technologies. They sent us over a sample pair of their Wi-FIVE digital performance eyewear from their Catalyst collection to see how effective we felt they were. For $99, if they work as advertised, they should be well worth the investment.

5 Reasons Why I Now Wear Gunnars

I wasn’t sure what to think of these at first. They were stylish. But for a guy who never wears glasses, what’s the point of wearing a pair now? So I tried them on for a good month, sporting them every day when I’m on the computer. Now I instinctively put them on whenever I need to stare at the screen for any period of time. To my surprise they really work. And here’s what did it for me.

Serves Its Purpose: Rated 5 of 5

The purpose of the Gunnar Optiks is to reduce eye strain for digital users. There is a small magnification to slightly enlarge font size on the computer. The glare of the screen is reduced. When relieving eye strain, migraines can be prevented.

The other thing they have done right is making prescription 3D glasses. Instead of putting 3D glasses over your existing prescription glasses, why not just use one pair of glasses. It just makes sense.

17% More Americans Have Myopia Than 30 Years Ago

For an increasing number of Americans, life’s a blur. That’s according to a population-based study published Monday showing that rates of myopia — difficulty seeing distant objects — are soaring. The trend is matched in many other countries, causing eye doctors to wonder what could be causing the decline in human vision.

Some suspect both an increase in our close-up work time (think computer use) and a decrease in time spent outdoors.

Every Geek’s Eyes Deserve Gunnars

I’ve been wearing eyeglasses every day of my life for more than twenty years, and an uncounted but surely huge amount of that time has been spent in front of a computer. My non-blogger career is as a software engineer, so there literally is no way I can do my job without my eyes on the screen. I am a hard-core skeptic, and I’d tried out so-called “computer” glasses before, so I figured the Gunnar Optiks glasses wouldn’t have much of an effect on me. I was very pleasantly surprised, then, when the set they sent me worked like a charm.
